For the Rice

Equipment

  • non-stick skillet
  • separate pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat to maintain tenderness. Shape the mixture into 2-4 equal patties, about ½ inch thick. Set them aside on a plate while you preheat your skillet.
  2. Place a non-stick skillet over medium heat and let it warm for about 2 minutes. Once hot, add the seasoned patties, cooking them for 4-5 minutes on each side until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Transfer the patties to a plate and keep them warm by covering loosely with foil.
  3. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium-low and add butter until melted. Sprinkle in flour, stirring continuously to form a roux, cooking for about 1 minute until golden. Gradually whisk in beef broth to avoid lumps, then add soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer the gravy for 5-7 minutes until it thickens.
  4. In a separate pan, heat a small amount of oil or butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs directly into the hot pan and cook sunny-side-up for about 3-4 minutes until the whites are set but the yolks remain runny. Transfer the fried eggs to a warm plate.
  5. To serve, scoop a generous portion of warm rice onto each plate. Place a beef patty atop the rice, ladle the rich gravy over the patty, and crown with a fried egg. Your comforting Loco Moco is ready to be enjoyed!
