Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar Adds sweetness and moisture; coconut sugar can provide a deeper flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Matcha Powder Infuses color and earthy flavor; opt for culinary-grade for baking.
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon Offers warmth and spice; no substitutions needed unless you prefer a different spice blend.
  • 1 teaspoon Fine Salt Balances sweetness; you can use Himalayan or sea salt here.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Adds richness and moisture; substitute with vegan butter for a dairy-free option.
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; bread flour can create a chewier texture.
  • 2 teaspoons Instant Dry Yeast Leavens the dough for fluffiness; active dry yeast works but needs activation.
  • 1 cup Whole Milk Hydrates and flavors the dough; feel free to substitute with any milk or plant-based milk.
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar Adds sweetness and helps brown the dough.
  • 2 large Eggs Binds and enriches the dough; flax eggs can be used as a vegan option.
For the Frosting
  • 4 ounces Cream Cheese Forms the base for a tangy, creamy frosting; Neufchâtel cheese is a lighter alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Enhances the frosting's flavor; almond extract can offer a different profile.
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Adds sweetness and texture; consider sugar alternatives if needed.
  • 1/4 cup Whole Milk (Frosting) Improves spreadability; use non-dairy milk if preferred.

Dough Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, matcha powder, instant dry yeast, and fine salt. Mix thoroughly.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine whole milk, unsalted butter, and granulated sugar. Heat until butter melts. Pour mixture into flour mixture.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, stirring well until a sticky dough forms. Gradually add more flour if needed and knead until smooth.
  4. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 10-20 minutes.
Rolling and Cutting
  1. Roll out dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter and sprinkle prepared filling on top.

Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 28-32 minutes until golden brown.
