- Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Cut your French bread or challah into 1-inch cubes and layer half in the bottom of the pan.
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, and 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract until smooth.
- Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the layer of bread, ensuring even distribution.
- Add the remaining bread cubes on top of the cream cheese mixture and press gently.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, brown sugar, and remaining vanilla until blended.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered bread.
- Cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours or overnight.
- Combine the brown sugar, flour, and a sprinkle of cinnamon in a bowl and cut in the butter until coarse crumbs.
- Once chilled, sprinkle the topping evenly over the bread and bake for 45-55 minutes.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving, drizzling with maple syrup or dusting with confectioners’ sugar.
