Ingredients
  

Brownie Base
  • 1 recipe 9X13 Brownie Recipe homemade or gluten-free mix
  • 2 tablespoons milk
Caramel Layer
  • 11 ounce bag of caramels unwrapped
  • 1.5 cups chopped pecans or walnuts, nut-free if omitted
Peanut Butter Frosting
  • 6 tablespoons butter softened, unsalted preferred
  • 0.75 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons milk for consistency
Chocolate Topping
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate for richer flavor
  • 1.5 teaspoons oil for smooth melting
Optional Enhancements
  • 1 pinch fleur de sel or coarse sea salt

Method
 

Prepare the Brownie Base
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Prepare your chosen brownie mix or homemade recipe. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Allow to cool completely.
Create the Caramel Layer
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine unwrapped caramels and 2 tablespoons of milk. Microwave on high for 1.5 to 2 minutes, stirring halfway. Once melted, stir in chopped pecans. Pour over cooled brownie base.
Whip Up the Peanut Butter Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, and milk. Blend until smooth and spreadable. Spread frosting over caramel layer evenly.
Melt the Chocolate Topping
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, add chocolate chips and oil. Heat for about 1 minute, stirring until smooth. Drizzle over the peanut butter layer.
Chill and Serve
  1. Let brownies chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Cut into squares and optionally sprinkle with fleur de sel before serving.
