  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk or milk mixed with vinegar
  • 1/2 cup neutral oil or melted butter or coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract use pure for best flavor
For the Caramel Soak
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk no direct substitutes
  • 1 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
For Topping
  • 1 tub frozen whipped topping or whipped heavy cream
  • 1 cup chopped Heath bars or crushed Butterfingers or Skor bars

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine chocolate cake mix, eggs, buttermilk, neutral oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth for about 2 minutes.
  3. Pour the batter into the greased baking pan and bake for 28 to 34 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Once baked, allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes and poke holes throughout the top with a fork.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce. Pour over the warm cake.
  6. Transfer the cake to the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours.
  7. After chilling, spread whipped topping over the cake and sprinkle chopped Heath bars on top.
  8. Slice the cake into squares and serve, optionally adding whipped cream or extra caramel.
