Ingredients

  • 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 2 ounces Gruyère cheese, sliced
  • 1 small apple, thinly sliced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spread the softened butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  4. Layer the cheddar cheese, Gruyère cheese, apple slices, crumbled bacon, and drizzle the maple syrup evenly over the top.
  5. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  6. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  7. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  8. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
  9. Remove from the skillet, let cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve.
