- 2 slices of sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
- 2 ounces Gruyère cheese, sliced
- 1 small apple, thinly sliced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Spread the softened butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
- Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
- Layer the cheddar cheese, Gruyère cheese, apple slices, crumbled bacon, and drizzle the maple syrup evenly over the top.
- Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
- Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from the skillet, let cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add a few slices of jalapeño or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
- Try using different types of cheese, such as fontina or mozzarella, for a unique flavor profile.
