Description

Tuxedo Bar Cake is an indulgent dessert featuring layers of rich chocolate cake, creamy frosting, and a decadent ganache topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (for frosting)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for ganache)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cake cools, prepare the frosting by beating the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form.
  9. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  10. Gently fold in the whipped cream until fully incorporated.
  11. Once the cake is completely cool, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top.
  12. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
  13. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips, stirring until melted and smooth. Let it cool slightly before drizzling over the frosted cake.
  14. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set the ganache before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
  • Substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark chocolate or white chocolate for a different taste.
