- 1 ½ pounds cube steak
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup cream of mushroom soup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Season the cube steak with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder on both sides.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the cube steak for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned.
- Transfer the steak to the crock pot.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Pour in the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and parsley. Stir well to combine.
- Pour the mixture over the cube steak in the crock pot.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the steak is tender.
- About 30 minutes before serving, mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl to create a slurry.
- Stir the slurry into the gravy in the crock pot and let it cook for an additional 30 minutes to thicken.
- Serve the cube steak with the savory gravy over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add sliced mushrooms to the crock pot along with the onions.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the gravy mixture.
