Description
Sorrentino Chicken is a delicious and flavorful dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese, baked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 pounds total)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Set up a breading station: place the flour in one shallow dish, beat the eggs in a second dish, and mix the breadcrumbs with the grated Parmesan cheese in a third dish.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, then coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken breasts and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Transfer the browned chicken to a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then top with sliced mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped basil before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, marinate the chicken in Italian seasoning or lemon juice for 30 minutes before breading.
- Swap out the marinara sauce for pesto for a different flavor profile, or use a combination of both for a unique twist.
