- 2–3 pounds beef brisket
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Season the brisket with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and dried thyme.
- Sear the brisket in the skillet for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
- Remove the brisket from the skillet and place it in the slow cooker.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Pour in the beef broth, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
- Pour the onion and sauce mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the brisket is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
- Serve with the cooking juices drizzled over the top.
Notes
- For a smoky flavor, add a teaspoon of liquid smoke to the sauce mixture.
- For a sweeter touch, mix in an additional tablespoon of brown sugar to the barbecue sauce before pouring it over the brisket.
