Description

A rich and decadent dark chocolate mousse cake that is perfect for chocolate lovers, featuring a creamy texture and a delightful flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and butter over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until pale and creamy. Stir in the melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture until no white streaks remain.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cake is set but still slightly soft in the center. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. While the cake cools, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
  7. Once the cake is completely cool, spread the whipped cream over the top of the cake. Optionally, you can garnish with chocolate shavings or fresh berries.
  8. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a coffee flavor, add 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules to the melted chocolate mixture.
  • To make it gluten-free, ensure that the chocolate chips and any other ingredients used are certified gluten-free.
