A quick and easy recipe for General Tso Chicken that can be prepared in just 30 minutes, perfect for a weeknight dinner.

- 2 cups boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Cooked white rice (for serving)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch until evenly coated. Shake off any excess cornstarch.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken in a single layer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Pour this sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Serve the General Tso chicken over cooked white rice and garnish with sliced green onions.
Notes
- For a crispier chicken, double fry the chicken pieces by frying them once, removing them to drain, and then frying them again for a few minutes before adding to the sauce.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the chicken with tofu and adjust cooking times accordingly.
