Description
Indulge in a delightful Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast, perfect for a special breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of thick-cut brioche or challah bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- Fresh berries (for serving, optional)
- Powdered sugar (for serving, optional)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Arrange the slices of brioche or challah in a single layer in the dish. You can cut the slices in half if needed to fit.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or at least 4 hours) to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish.
- Bake the French toast for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.
- Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the brown sugar until it forms a crispy, golden crust. If you don’t have a torch, you can place the dish under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Serve warm, topped with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For a chocolate twist, add chocolate chips between the layers of bread before soaking.
- For a fruitier version, layer sliced bananas or strawberries between the bread slices for added flavor and texture.
