Description
A delicious and hearty recipe for Juicy Hamburger Steak served with a savory gravy, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Shape the mixture into four equal patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the hamburger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the beef broth and soy sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Bring to a simmer.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Gradually stir the slurry into the simmering broth, cooking until the gravy thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Add the dried thyme and stir to combine.
- Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow to simmer for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
- Serve the hamburger steaks hot, topped with the savory gravy.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers to the gravy.
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, adjusting cooking times as necessary.
