  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Shape the mixture into four equal patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the hamburger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the beef broth and soy sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Bring to a simmer.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Gradually stir the slurry into the simmering broth, cooking until the gravy thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Add the dried thyme and stir to combine.
  6. Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow to simmer for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
  7. Serve the hamburger steaks hot, topped with the savory gravy.
