Description
A delicious and easy-to-make Southern banana cobbler that combines ripe bananas with a sweet batter, perfect for dessert lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced bananas, granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Toss gently to coat the bananas evenly and set aside for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the milk and melted butter, stirring until just combined. The batter will be slightly lumpy.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
- Spoon the banana mixture over the batter, spreading it out gently.
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this mixture evenly over the top of the banana layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the cobbler is golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg along with the cinnamon.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
