Description

Deliciously crispy and sticky tofu bites that are sure to impress everyone!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch pieces) and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the tofu from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. In a separate saucepan, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Add the crispy tofu bites to the saucepan and gently toss to coat them in the sticky sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat through.
  6. Serve the crispy sticky tofu bites warm, garnished with sliced green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the tofu in soy sauce and garlic for 30 minutes before coating with cornstarch.
  • Substitute maple syrup with honey or agave syrup for a different sweetness profile.
