Description
Deliciously crispy and sticky tofu bites that are sure to impress everyone!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch pieces) and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the tofu from the skillet and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a separate saucepan, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the crispy tofu bites to the saucepan and gently toss to coat them in the sticky sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat through.
- Serve the crispy sticky tofu bites warm, garnished with sliced green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the tofu in soy sauce and garlic for 30 minutes before coating with cornstarch.
- Substitute maple syrup with honey or agave syrup for a different sweetness profile.
