- 2 cups almond flour
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled Italian sausage (or any preferred meat)
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for filling)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine almond flour, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions and place each portion between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll out each portion into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the cooked sausage, ricotta cheese, remaining mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
- Spoon half of the filling mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.
- Place the calzones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the calzones cool for a few minutes before serving with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the filling.
- You can substitute the meat with sautéed vegetables for a vegetarian option.
- For extra flavor, brush the calzones with olive oil and sprinkle with additional Italian seasoning before baking.
