Description
A delicious and tropical twist on traditional French toast made with sweet Hawaiian rolls.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 Hawaiian sweet rolls, sliced in half
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Butter, for cooking
- Maple syrup, for serving
- Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
- Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of Hawaiian roll into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Allow any excess mixture to drip off.
- Place the coated rolls onto the skillet or griddle and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy. Add more butter as needed for cooking.
- Once cooked, remove from the skillet and keep warm while you repeat the process with the remaining slices.
- Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For a tropical twist, add a splash of coconut milk to the egg mixture or top with fresh pineapple slices.
- You can also substitute the Hawaiian rolls with challah or brioche for a different flavor profile.
