Description

A delicious and tropical twist on traditional French toast made with sweet Hawaiian rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 Hawaiian sweet rolls, sliced in half
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Butter, for cooking
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
  2. Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
  3. Dip each slice of Hawaiian roll into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Allow any excess mixture to drip off.
  4. Place the coated rolls onto the skillet or griddle and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly crispy. Add more butter as needed for cooking.
  5. Once cooked, remove from the skillet and keep warm while you repeat the process with the remaining slices.
  6. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • For a tropical twist, add a splash of coconut milk to the egg mixture or top with fresh pineapple slices.
  • You can also substitute the Hawaiian rolls with challah or brioche for a different flavor profile.
