Description

A hearty and delicious Hamburger Potato Casserole that is perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups frozen hash browns (thawed)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, thawed hash browns, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, paprika, thyme, and sour cream. Mix until well combined.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread it evenly and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes or some diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, and use low-fat cheese and soup to reduce calories.
