Description
Golden Onion Butter Rice is a flavorful and aromatic dish made with long-grain white rice, sautéed onions, and a blend of spices, perfect as a side or main dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups long-grain white rice
- 4 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric (for color)
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Once the onions are golden, add the garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and turmeric. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the butter and onion mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
- If desired, garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider sautéing some diced bell peppers or mushrooms along with the onions.
- To make this dish a complete meal, add cooked chicken, shrimp, or vegetables of your choice before serving.
