Description

Golden Onion Butter Jasmine Rice is a flavorful and aromatic side dish that combines the richness of butter and the sweetness of golden onions with fluffy jasmine rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups jasmine rice
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric (for color, optional)
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and fragrant.
  3. Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan with the onions, stirring to coat the rice in the butter and onion mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Pour in the water, and add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and turmeric if using. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Once cooked, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider substituting chicken or vegetable broth for the water.
  • To make this dish a complete meal, add cooked vegetables or proteins like grilled chicken or shrimp before serving.
