Description
Golden Onion Butter Jasmine Rice is a flavorful and aromatic side dish that combines the richness of butter and the sweetness of golden onions with fluffy jasmine rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups jasmine rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric (for color, optional)
- Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and fragrant.
- Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan with the onions, stirring to coat the rice in the butter and onion mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the water, and add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and turmeric if using. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Once cooked, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider substituting chicken or vegetable broth for the water.
- To make this dish a complete meal, add cooked vegetables or proteins like grilled chicken or shrimp before serving.
