Dirty Chai Cream-Filled Doughnuts are a delightful treat that combines the flavors of chai tea with a creamy filling, all encased in a soft doughnut.

- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup brewed chai tea, cooled
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg

- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon brewed chai tea, cooled
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom.
- In another bowl, mix the milk, brewed chai tea, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F.
- Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop doughnut batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- While the doughnuts cool, prepare the cream filling by whipping the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and chai tea, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
- Once the doughnuts are cool, use a small knife to cut a slit in the side of each doughnut.
- Fill a piping bag with the cream filling and pipe it into each doughnut until filled.
- In a shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll each filled doughnut in the sugar mixture until coated.
Notes
- For a lighter version, you can bake the doughnuts at 350°F for 10-12 minutes instead of frying.
- For a chocolate twist, add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the doughnut batter and use chocolate whipped cream for the filling.
