Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds flank steak
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)
- 1/4 cup orange juice (about 1 orange)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 8 small corn tortillas
- 1 cup diced onions
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Lime wedges for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the flank steak.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the flank steak for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned.
- Transfer the seared steak to the crock pot. Pour the lime juice and orange juice over the steak.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the meat is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- Once cooked, remove the steak from the crock pot and shred it using two forks. Mix in the chopped cilantro.
- Warm the corn tortillas in a skillet or microwave.
- Assemble the tacos by placing shredded carne asada on each tortilla. Top with diced onions, tomatoes, and avocado slices. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- For added flavor, marinate the flank steak in the spice mixture and juices overnight before cooking.
- Try adding pickled jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce for extra heat.
