Description

Crispy Mozzarella Sticks are a delicious appetizer that features gooey cheese coated in a crunchy breadcrumb exterior, perfect for dipping in marinara sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2-inch thick sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Begin by setting up a breading station. Place the flour in a shallow dish. In another shallow dish, beat the eggs. In a third shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Dip each mozzarella stick first in the flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.
  3. Next, dip the floured mozzarella stick into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off.
  4. Finally, coat the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well. Repeat this process for all mozzarella sticks.
  5. Once all sticks are breaded, place them on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  7. Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.
  8. Use a slotted spoon to remove the sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar or pepper jack, for a unique flavor twist.
