A delightful and tangy cranberry sauce perfect for enhancing holiday desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature. It will thicken further as it cools.
- Transfer to a serving dish or airtight container and refrigerate if not serving immediately.
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, add a pinch of ground ginger or nutmeg during the simmering process.
- To make a citrusy version, stir in the zest of one orange or lemon along with the vanilla extract.
