Description

A creamy and flavorful bisque made with crab and shrimp, perfect for a cozy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups seafood stock or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup cooked crab meat, shredded
  • 1 cup cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
  2. Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  3. Gradually whisk in the seafood stock or chicken broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream, crab meat, shrimp, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes until the seafood is heated through.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
  6. Ladle the bisque into bowls and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce to the bisque.
  • Substitute the crab and shrimp with other seafood like lobster or scallops for a different flavor profile.
