Description

Classic Italian Tiramisu is a heavenly coffee delight that combines layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers with a rich mascarpone cheese mixture, topped with cocoa powder and optional dark chocolate shavings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups mascarpone cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour the cooled coffee into a shallow dish and mix in the coffee liqueur if using. Set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture, stirring until smooth.
  4. Beat the egg whites in another bowl until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the mascarpone mixture.
  5. Whip the heavy cream with the vanilla extract until soft peaks form, then fold into the mascarpone mixture until well blended.
  6. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for 1-2 seconds and lay a single layer in a 9×13-inch dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  8. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  9. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and add dark chocolate shavings if desired.
