Description

Churro Toffee is a delicious dessert that combines the flavors of churros and toffee, topped with chocolate and cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt, mixing until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the butter mixture, stirring until just combined. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  5. While the toffee is cooling, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Once the toffee has cooled slightly, spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the melted chocolate.
  7. Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature, or refrigerate for about 30 minutes to speed up the process. Once set, lift the toffee out of the pan using the parchment paper and cut into squares.

Notes

  • For a twist, try adding chopped nuts such as pecans or almonds on top of the chocolate before it sets.
  • You can also substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with white chocolate for a different flavor profile.
