Ingredients

  • 2 cups cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup vanilla pudding (prepared)
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings or grated chocolate
  • Fresh cherries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
  2. In a trifle dish or a large glass bowl, layer half of the crumbled chocolate cake at the bottom.
  3. Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the cake layer.
  4. Add half of the prepared vanilla pudding on top of the cherries.
  5. Spread half of the whipped cream mixture over the pudding layer.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining chocolate cake, cherry pie filling, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream.
  7. Finish by topping the trifle with chocolate shavings or grated chocolate.
  8. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  9. Garnish with fresh cherries if desired before serving.
