- 2 cups chocolate cake, crumbled (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 cups cherry pie filling
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup vanilla pudding (prepared)
- 1 cup chocolate shavings or grated chocolate
- Fresh cherries for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
- In a trifle dish or a large glass bowl, layer half of the crumbled chocolate cake at the bottom.
- Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the cake layer.
- Add half of the prepared vanilla pudding on top of the cherries.
- Spread half of the whipped cream mixture over the pudding layer.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining chocolate cake, cherry pie filling, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream.
- Finish by topping the trifle with chocolate shavings or grated chocolate.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
- Garnish with fresh cherries if desired before serving.

- For a boozy twist, add a splash of cherry liqueur to the cherry pie filling.
- Substitute the chocolate cake with brownies for a richer flavor and texture.
