Description
Char Siu Chicken is a sweet and savory Asian BBQ delight made with marinated chicken thighs, perfect for grilling or baking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, five-spice powder, and black pepper until well combined.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.
- Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If baking, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade halfway through.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add 1-2 teaspoons of sriracha or chili paste to the marinade.
- Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
- Alternatively, use the marinade on pork or tofu for different protein options.
