- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate cake, crumbled (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 can (15 ounces) cherry pie filling
- 1/2 cup chocolate shavings (for garnish)
- Fresh cherries (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, layer half of the crumbled chocolate cake on the bottom.
- Spoon half of the cherry pie filling over the chocolate cake, spreading it evenly.
- Add half of the whipped cream mixture on top of the cherries, smoothing it out gently.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining chocolate cake, cherry pie filling, and whipped cream.
- Finish with a layer of whipped cream on top and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.
- If desired, add fresh cherries on top for garnish.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute half of the heavy cream with Greek yogurt.
- For added flavor, mix in a tablespoon of Kirsch (cherry brandy) with the cherry pie filling before layering.
