Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 12 cannelloni tubes
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the diced onion and minced garlic, stirring frequently until the beef is cooked through and the onion becomes soft and translucent. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Season the beef mixture with oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper, then set aside to cool for a few minutes.
- In a separate bowl, blend together the ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, and the Parmesan until smooth and creamy.
- Using a small spoon or a piping bag, carefully fill each cannelloni tube with the beef mixture.
- Spread a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish, then arrange the stuffed cannelloni in a single layer over the sauce.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top of the cannelloni.
- In a small saucepan, gently heat the heavy cream, stirring in the rest of the mozzarella until it melts into a silky sauce.
- Drizzle this creamy cheese sauce over the cannelloni.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
- Allow the dish to cool for about 5 minutes before serving, and garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add more red pepper flakes.
- Make sure to drain excess fat from the beef for a healthier dish.
- Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
