Description

Authentic Char Siu Chicken Sweet & Sticky BBQ Delight is a flavorful dish featuring marinated chicken thighs grilled or baked to perfection, served with a sweet and sticky sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, five-spice powder, red food coloring (if using), and black pepper. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F. If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.
  5. Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If baking, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade halfway through.
  6. Once cooked, let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1 teaspoon of sriracha or chili paste to the marinade.
  • For a smoky flavor, try adding a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade before marinating the chicken.
