Authentic Char Siu Chicken Sweet & Sticky BBQ Delight is a flavorful dish featuring marinated chicken thighs grilled or baked to perfection, served with a sweet and sticky sauce.

- 2 pounds chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, five-spice powder, red food coloring (if using), and black pepper. Whisk until well blended.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F. If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.
- Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If baking, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade halfway through.
- Once cooked, let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add 1 teaspoon of sriracha or chili paste to the marinade.
- For a smoky flavor, try adding a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade before marinating the chicken.
