Description

Apple Pie Biscuits are a delightful twist on traditional apple pie, combining the flavors of apple pie filling with flaky biscuit dough.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup apple pie filling (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for topping)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 cup sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  6. Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the apple pie filling with the cinnamon. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the filling onto the center of each biscuit.
  8. Fold the edges of the biscuit over the filling to create a pocket, pinching to seal.
  9. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the biscuits. Sprinkle with the remaining tablespoon of sugar.
  10. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a twist, add a teaspoon of nutmeg or allspice to the apple pie filling for extra flavor.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for a delicious dessert.
